BACKGROUD
Individual health and hygiene largely depends on adequate access to safe drinking water and proper relationship between water, sanitation and health. Consuption for unsafe drinking water, improper disposal of human excreta, inadequate environmental sanitation and of personal and food hygiene have been major causes of transmission of diseases. The disease cycle to be break for prevent high mortality rate.

At this outset, the Central Rural Sanitation Programme (CRSP) was launched with the objective to improve the quality of life of the rural people and also provide privacy and dignity to women and sanitation is one of the basic index of our individual social life.

Sanitation has been late entrant into the Govt. Programme, there has been more focus on coverage of household with a latrine. However looking to the above situation and their interrelations, it is now being recognized that the whole issue of sanitation and safe handling of water involves behavioural changes encompassing the household neighbourhood and the village at large.

In rural sanitation, the role of private sector has been quite appreciable, to meet the demand for the facility created in household/community level. It is observed that the contribution of private sector in sanitation promotion in rural areas is almost three times than the government managed fully/partially subsidized sanitation programme.

Absence of sanitation facility in schools has been one of the contributing factors for the dropout of the girls, expecially the adolescents. The Focus of the communication package has been given on adults in which the young children have been left behind resulting in repetition of the efforts at regular intervals. There is need to involve the adolescents in promoting hygiene practices and also create an enabling environment for behaviour development. DWSM, Simdega the consultant to TSC project is being implemented by GOI & GOJ the suport provided by UNICEF for the implementation of the programme in Simdega District of Jharkhand.
